Day Three - Saguaros and Steaks in the Sonoran Desert

For our second national park of the trip, we visited the Saguaro National Forest, home of the amazing Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Lars and Nibbles went searching for coffee and a dog park, while the boys and I ... well ... these pictures speak for themselves.

Ironically, the first exhibit was a simulated cave/cavern - mercifully on level ground, though.

Hart, mesmerized by a wall of gems, rocks, and minerals.

Rune and a sleepy mountain lion.

Rune heard this lizard before we spotted it - he insists it was following him!

Vulture Culture. Nuff said.

This crazy bird, called a cienega, was truly enthralled with Rune.

Ocelot!

Hart and a random iguana not in an exhibit.

We named him Justin. Get it?

River otter - soooooo cute!

Road runner....no coyotes in sight.

Crazy bird wandering around the aviary.

Rune fell in love with the hummingbirds.

Role reversal - from road kill to vulture and vice versa.

Lars picked us up and we drove through the Saguaro National Forest heading for Li'l Abner's Steak House. I ate here in 1992, and have always wanted to come back. It was awesome.

The pit

The meat, cooking.

The meat, being consumed, along with beans, salsa, & garlic bread.

Rune adding his John Hancock to the wall.

The Road Warrior

Hart visiting Nibbles in her little nest - with an epic photobomb!

Running across the lot, sun setting over the Saguaro National Forest...we headed for Globe, AZ to a great hotel. Hart fell asleep in the car on the way, but gamely rebounded to join Rune in recording this...
